Robbie, a 9-year-old boy, finds himself on an island that seems uninhabited at first but soon discovers that he is not alone there. He is found by a local boy, about the same age. He came to the island with his mother, but now she is already dead. He and Robbie become friends and play together for most of the movie. The story is similar to "Robinson Crusoe", and Robbie even calls his friend Friday, remembering a book once read to him by his father. Only both inhabitants of island are children
